Verizon Brings Home 5G Service to Four US Cities on Oct. 1

The US-based wireless carrier will offer its 5G broadband in four cities: Houston, Indianapolis, Los Angeles and Sacramento.

While discussing the pricing strategy, Verizon mentioned that the company's wireless customers will receive the service for $50 per month whereas the non-Verizon can buy the same 5G connectivity at $70 for a month. The company plans to "rapidly expand" Verizon 5G Home coverage, but doing so will require it to install new equipment from vendors.

The service, called Verizon 5G Home, will offer customers higher speeds than most are used to.

Verizon's network limitations have been a hot topic recently, since the Santa Clara County fire departments complained that a device with an unlimited data plan was throttled while they were fighting California's largest-ever wildfire.

USA consumers can visit FirstOn5G.com to sign up to become a member of "First On 5G" beginning Thursday at 8am ET.

Members of FirstOn5G.com, will get Verizon 5G Home free for three months in Houston, Indianapolis, Los Angeles and Sacramento.

The major difference with 5G is that it's much faster and can be applied outside of mobile uses. The package includes a free router, free installation, and free upgrades, similar to Verizon's existing home broadband service.

In Verizon's case, wireless 5G technology is replacing the typical wired home broadband internet service.

"We will deliver a revolutionary 5G experience that will change how people live, work and play", Verizon Chief Technology Officer Kyle Malady said in a statement. If you're in one of those cities, you might have access to 5G beginning October 1st.

"5G is here", Verizon CEO Hans Vestberg said on Tuesday afternoon.

The initial three months will be bundled with YouTube TV for free, but after the promotional period ends, customers will need to pay $40/month to keep the service.
