Later, the 13-time major victor Djokovic swept Japan's Kei Nishikori 6-3, 6-4, 6-2 to reach his seventh U.S. Open final in his last eight appearances.

Twice champion Djokovic, who reached his eighth final at Flushing Meadows and is seeded sixth this year, broke Nishikori in his first service game and closed out the opening set with an ace in 37 minutes without facing a break point.

He has resurrected his career impressively after minor surgery on his long-term elbow injury, which kept him out of the game for six months a year ago.

Novak Djokovic holds Juan Martin del Potro in the highest regard and knows he will face a "big-match player" when the two meet in the US Open men's singles final.

Don't miss out on the latest news and information.

For the 31-year-old Djokovic, victory on Sunday would represent a second Slam in succession after his Wimbledon triumph and 14th in a remarkable career.

That didn't stop him losing the set, though, and he was forced to save five more break points at the beginning of the second in a 14-minute game. Lot of people in this room, including myself, would never have thought that at the age of 32 I will be here fighting for titles, fighting for the first positions of the rankings.

One of the greatest players of all time, the one chink in the Spaniard's armour has always been his knees with injuries plaguing him throughout his career.

The book quotes Kelly as having doubts about Trump's mental faculties, declaring during one meeting, "We're in Crazytown". White House aides on Tuesday coordinated with other officials quoted in the book to dispute troublesome passages.

"I don't know what can happen in a couple of days or a couple of weeks".

"I love to play against Rafa because he's the biggest fighter in this sport and I don't like to see him suffering on court like today so I'm sad for him but I'm also happy to move forward".

"It's tough, these moments, but on the other hand I'm going to keep going and I'm going to keep working hard to keep having opportunities".

"I didn't expect to get this kind of emotions playing tennis again".

"This year have been a fantastic year until this moment", said Nadal. "This time it was a little bit more aggressive with my movement", said Nadal. In 2017, Nadal won his first Slams in three years (the French and U.S. Opens), then won his 11th French Open this year.

"Is not an injury that tells you six months off, you are back".

Yet the in-form Djokovic, who has a 2-5 record from his previous finals in NY, expects a stern test from the 2009 champion, who has also looked in tremendous form over the past fortnight.

Del Potro's game couldn't be much more different and Djokovic will have to come up with the answers to the enormous firepower at the Argentine's disposal. In a post-match news conference Friday, he was as frustrated as he was glum to have lost the chance to play for his 18th career major title. "I know what is going on with the knee". "Two of them I had to retire". "Especially after coming from injury, I'm enjoying this challenge". Now I'm much older.
