In the tweet, Trump explicitly denounced the Justice Department for bringing charges based on thorough investigations.

WASHINGTON- The Justice Department said on Wednesday that it had met with state attorneys general to discuss concerns that social media platforms were "intentionally stifling the free exchange of ideas". For example, when the Justice Department went to court this year to block AT&T's proposed merger with Time Warner, the telecom giant sought to compel White House documents that could have showed whether Trump may have inappropriately directed antitrust regulators to stymie the deal. Chris Collins (R-NY) and Duncan Hunter (R-CA), who were respectively indicted on charges related to insider tradingand campaign finance fraud.

Trump has frequently suggested he views the Justice Department less as a law enforcement agency and more as a department that is supposed to do his personal and political bidding.

The Senate panel has been examining reported Russian efforts to influence US public opinion throughout Trump's presidency, after USA intelligence agencies concluded that entities backed by the Kremlin had sought to boost his chances of winning the White House in 2016. However, early on October, Papadopoulos pleaded guilty of having lied to the Federal Bureau of Investigation about the Russia contacts he had and that he had been workinh hand to hand with Robert Mueller, who was a Special Counsel probe during the Russian meddling meeting which was held in 2016 which collided with the US election and most probably colluded with Trump's campaign.

Although presidents and attorney generals have clashed in previous administrations, experts see Trump as breaking new ground in terms of the public and aggressive ways he pressures Sessions.

Politico reported Tuesday Twitter said not even President Trump is immune from being kicked off the platform if his tweets cross a line with abusive behavior.

President Donald Trump, second from left, listens as Attorney General Jeff Sessions, right, speaks during a cabinet meeting in the Cabinet Room of the White House, Aug. 16, 2018, in Washington. But some have indicated that Trump may make a change after the elections. Democratic Senator Joe Manchin of West Virginia voted for Sessions when he was confirmed as attorney general by a 52-47 vote in February 2017.

It also raises fresh questions about whether President Donald Trump's own rhetoric may undercut the Justice Department's efforts.

There has typically been a separation between the White House and the Justice Department, but Trump has frequently disregarded those norms, giving orders to Sessions. Special council Robert Mueller was later on appointed for the investigation by Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein.

Mr Trump, who did not address the specifics of the charges, did not name the Republicans he was referring to on Twitter. In addition, they wrote that in a constitutional democracy, "those in office should not wield the powers of the state to benefit their political allies and punish their opponents". Georgia Sen. Johnny Isakson said "I resent that", when asked about Trump's mockery of Sessions' southern accent.
