Sen. John McCain's widow on Tuesday said former Sen John Kyl will fill her late husband's seat.

"There is no one in Arizona with the stature of Jon Kyl". Most recently he's been helping President Donald Trump's Supreme Court pick, Brett Kavanaugh, get nominated. ". There is no replacing John McCain, but the law requires me to do it".

Ducey is appointing a McCain replacement until a special election is held at the same time as the November 2020 general election.

"Senator Kyl is prepared to hit the ground running". He has indicated he is open to serving until 2020, but will not run for re-election if he does so.

Doug Ducey has scheduled a 1 p.m. ET news conference to make the announcement. "Washington Mourned John McCain. John McCain", Ducey said.

Jon Kyl, shortly before he retired from the Senate.

As buses filled with people - some labeled with signs "Honoring Senator John McCain" - passed by, Stacy Cole, 45, her daughter Bianca Elliot, 15, and friend Nancy McCamish, 54, gleefully waved their flags near an entrance to the Naval Academy.

Details Revealed In Bears, Raiders Trade For Khalil Mack
As Raiders fans wake up to the news that defensive end Khalil Mack will be traded to the Bears , they're not going to be happy. But aside from Trubisky, Mack represents greater value than anyone Chicago has nabbed with its first pick in many, many years.

As three F-18 jets from the Navy's Blue Angels show squadron streaked overhead, a fourth plane broke formation and arced skyward, marking the conclusion of an extraordinary five-day show of mourning for one of the United States' most admired politicians. "Kudos to Senator Kyl for his willingness to serve once again".

Saturday's event in Washington, D.C., where John McCain lived and worked for more 40 years, was part of McCain's five-day cross-country funeral procession.

"I will miss him as a friend, and a strong force for America and the world", Kyl said.

"I can not think of anything I've done in politics of outcome, any cause I've engaged in, that John was not there, that I was not his wingman".

McCain died on August 25 at his home in Sedona, Arizona, following a year-long battle with glioblastoma, an aggressive form of brain cancer. But after his fighter jet was shot down over Vietnam, leaving him with lifelong injuries, he ultimately left the military and turned to politics, representing Arizona in the US Congress for 35 years. I think it is boorish.

It's unclear what more Kyl, 76, will do in the Senate. His work was primarily focused on tax issues affecting the company, but Kyl's firm, Covington & Burling, also lobbied the House and Senate to drum up support for the B-21 bomber, a stealth aircraft Northrop Grumman is building for the Air Force.
